G P Zachariades Group has won a contract to build an $81.7m (BHD 31m) cancer treatment centre at the King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) in Muharraq, Gulf Daily News has revealed.
Work on the 120-bed, 57,000 sq m project is expected to begin this week and is scheduled for completion in May 2016.
KHUH chief executive Major General Dr Shaikh Salman bin Ateyatallah Al Khalifa revealed that Mazen Alumran Consulting Engineers had been selected to draw up the blueprints, working alongside Hassell, a leading international design firm that has helped design oncology centres around the world.
“The National Oncology Centre is the first of its kind in the Gulf and work on this ambitious project starts this Thursday,” said Maj Gen Dr Shaikh Salman. “Thirty-six national and international companies applied for the public tender, and we selected 19 of these.”
