Mubarak Al Malik has been dubbed the ‘Qatari Banksy’ for painting graffiti art on walls of abandoned yards and buildings in Doha – much like the British street artist.
While Banksy focuses on political themes and keeps his identity anonymous, 29-year-old Al Malik paints snippets of Arab pop culture to “beautify the places that are old and forgotten, and those that are abandoned and not fit for use”, he told Doha News.
