A Qatari university has announced plans to set up a college of medicine in a bid to address a growing need for locally-trained physicians.
Based on a directive from Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the board of Regents of Qatar University (QU) have approved plans to establish the college, with the first students expected to enroll in autumn 2015.
The decision was based on the result of a feasibility study conducted by a team representing Qatar University, Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar Leadership Centre, a statement said.
The team was further advised by an international advisory board including current and former Deans of medical colleges at Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, Heidelberg University, American University of Beirut, and University of Sharjah.
