New book parodies Dubai stereotypes

Only in Dubai

London-based journalist Sophie Robehmed has written a book satirising Dubai “stereotypes.”

Only in Dubai – An Essential Guide to the Emirate’s Expats, parodies 20 types of people living in the city.

They include so-called “Designer Devotees,” “Palm Posers,” and “Brunch Brits,” all of whom Robehmed claims she has befriended or encountered during her time in Dubai.

“Dubai is unlike any other city on earth. It is unique in many ways, one of which is its population, made up of about 90 per cent expats. Because of this, the city is a real melting pot, with one-of-a-kind expat tribes that needed to be written about. They’re too much fun not to,” she tells Arabian Business.

The British-Lebanese author lived in Dubai for a year between 2012 and 2013 where she worked as a lifestyle journalist.
