Mohamed Assaf and One Direction are in the running for Best World Wide Act at this year’s MTV European Music Awards (EMA) held in Glasgow on November 9. Both join a list including Aussie pop-rockers 5 Seconds of Summer, the American girl group Fifth Harmony and Italian soul singer Alessandra Amoroso. Assaf’s road to the EMA’s had him first taking out the Best Middle East Act award last week, beating out competition from fellow regional nominees Jana, Cairokee, Saad Lamjarred and Imar Bassad.
