Lilly Singh, the happiest YouTuber, in Dubai

667961517Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope. It’s your girl, Superwoman. Not the superhero, but the Indian-Canadian YouTube sensation who is bringing her world tour, A Trip to Unicorn Island, to Dubai this weekend.

Lilly Singh is a 26-year-old quirky comedy machine who isn’t afraid to pull funny faces and get candid for the camera on her YouTube channel IISuperwomanII. Her down-to-earth personality has gotten her channel 5.8 million followers and more than 700 million video views in less than five years.

From jokey rants about public displays of affection in a video titled 10 Unwritten Rules of Social Media to dressing up as her mum and dad, complete with salwar kameez and drawn-on beard, to stage a reaction to Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda video, Singh finds hilarity in everyday scenarios, drawing from her own life and family.

Born to Punjabi parents in Ontario, Canada, Singh started making videos in 2010, and she was definitely not the only one trying to break into the vlogging world. What set Singh apart from the crowd was that she was making videos about being a brown woman. Her Indian heritage was, and is, an intrinsic part of her brand. But that doesn’t stop her from drawing fans from all over the world.
