Ever gazed up at the night sky and wondered exactly what you’re looking at?
Well, now’s your chance to find out more about the fascinating world of astronomy.
Every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday night during the Holy Month of Ramadan, you can come along and enjoy a mobile observatory/planetarium set up on the Promenade at The Galleria on Al Maryah Island.
Get a close-up look at the Solar System through the observatory’s mounted telescope and learn all about our galaxy and the wider universe each night from 8pm until midnight.
Well-known local astronomer Nezar Sallam will give lectures every Thursday and Friday at 9:30pm and 10:30pm on different aspects of the cosmos. Nezar’s energy and enthusiasm is bound to engage youngsters and spark their interest in space exploration.
This educational initiative, called Journey to Space, is brought to you by Yahsat, Mubadala, and Technology Development Committee (TDC).
Each week will have a different theme:
- Mission to the Moon – Live moon sightings and teachings on the moon phases throughout the holy month.
- The Ringed World – Teachings and sightings of Saturn.
- The Red Planet – teachings and sightings of Mars.
- Satellites: A Journey into Space – teaching children how to build and launch a satellite.
