Amman’s old Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) terminal will live on in a new artwork commissioned by airport operator Airport International Group (AIG). The permanent installation near the majestic new passenger terminal will be a symbolic nod to the proud history of Amman’s premier aeronautical gateway.
Artist Anees Maani had passed through the airport en route to Amsterdam where he was exhibiting a one-man show of his sculpture at the Leiden Museum. It was during the last weeks of that terminal’s 30-year life: concessions were already transitioning to the new terminal where crews were busily preparing for its Grand Opening.
