There is no doubt that Dubai is a very luxurious city, but some things you come across are downright outrageous.
Here is a look at some of the more costly food items:
1. Golden Phoenix Cupcake: Yes, it is as unbelievable as it sounds – a cupcake that uses 23-carat gold as its primary ingredient, goes for a cool AED3,676. Made by Bloomsbury Café at the Dubai Mall, the cupcake also uses premium ingredients such as Ugandan vanilla beans and Italian Amedei Porcelena.
2. Braised supreme dried Japanese Abalone in Royal Supreme stock: We aren’t entirely sure what most of that means, but what we do know is Abalone is a very special kind of sea snail. It’s so special that at Hakkasan, you can enjoy these gooey critters for as (not so) little as AED2,950.
3. Beluga Imperial: A list of ridiculously priced food would not be complete without mentioning caviar, and where would it be more costly than at the self-proclaimed seven-star hotel, the Burj Al Arab? For a ‘mere’ AED2,150 you can treat yourself to 20 grams of Beluga Imperial caviar at the Al Mahara restaurant. And just in case you were wondering, that adds up to AED107.5 per gram, which is one dirham cheaper than one gram of 18-karat gold.
