The opening of Al Wathba Cycle Track last year was a big boost to cycling enthusiasts in Abu Dhabi. The 16-km track on the outskirts of the city is a favourite meeting point for riders.
Yas Island and Al Raha Beach areas attract a large number of bike riders as it offers cycling infrastructure with modern cycle paths, signage, maps and cycle-stands. Abu Dhabi Corniche too has emerged as a spot of interest for cycling enthusiasts.
Abu Dhabi has announced its ambition to transform itself into a cycling- and walking- friendly emirate by 2020, according to a master plan revealed by the Department of Transport (DoT).
