Muscat Youth Summit tackles eco-friendly housing concept

dtl_23_12_2013_5_13_28News about the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to designate October 26 as Oman’s annual ‘Youth Day’ was received with great enthusiasm at the Muscat Youth Summit (MYS).

“The MYS is all about developing leadership qualities of the young people and through a series of experiential learning activities, we are connecting summit’s participants to the Duqm community and inspiring them to become problem solvers, decision makers and future community leaders. His Majesty’s decision to declare an annual ‘Youth Day’ is an inspired idea and one that can only help the MYS flourish in the years to come,” remarked His Highness Sayyid Faisal bin Turki Al Said, chairperson of the MYS Organizing Committee.

With people beginning to pay attention to the issue of global warming, the number of eco-friendly real estate projects has been steadily increasing around the world. Research indicates that environment-friendly housing projects can provide residents with utility savings of up to 50 per cent compared to standard projects. A group of participants at the MYS have been tasked with investigating Duqm’s future housing needs and how eco-friendly materials and building techniques can be brought to the city.
