Dubai firefighters to get jetpacks

Dubai Civil Defence has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with New Zealand-based firm Martin Aircraft Company Limited for the future delivery of manned and unmanned jetpacks, simulators, spare parts and support services, as well as pilot and engineer training for Civil Defence and Fire Service personnel in Dubai.

In other words: Dubai firefighters will use jetpacks from now on.

The agreement includes an order for 20 jetpacks and two simulators, and aims to assist in advancing the first responder services in the Emirates, a statement by the aircraft company reveals.

According to the manufacturer’s website, each First Responder Jetpack costs approximately $200,000, without extra customisations.

So 20 of these would cost roughly $4 million.
