Saudi designer Daneh Buahmad: Minimalist essentials meets urban edge

Daneh FashionWhile most of us are still sweltering under the scorching summer sun, the global fashion industry is already looking ahead to the Autumn/Winter 15 season.

Among them is Saudi designer, Daneh Buahmad, whose fresh, edgy designs for the cooler seasons exude her style philosophy perfectly – basic yet wild, classic yet innovative, functional yet edgy.

Launched in 2009, Buahad’s London-based fashion label showcases “urbanwear with an edge,” approaching fashion with a practical yet whimsical eye designed for the modern, independent, self-made woman on the go. And if there’s anything we get behind, it’s a fashion line that celebrates freedom.

Despite falling in love with clothes and fashion at an early age, Buahmad focused on computer science during her academic years. After working in IT for a few years, she to revive her creative passion by spending a few summers at Central Saint Martins in London to gain some design experience and hone in her artistic skills.

Now showing her 11th collection, Buahmad’s eponymous line is fresh, clean and versatile enough for those who, as she best puts it, “dare to be comfortably different.”

Her latest A/W 2015 collection of wearable statement pieces is called Transitions which she says reflects the current phase in her life.

“This collection is one of my favorites, yet it came at a very challenging time. I was moving abroad, changing my living situation and really transforming from one state to another both personally and professionally,” said Buahmad. “I was also renovating my house and really in over my head learning about the process day after day. What really drove me nuts was seeing the little imperfections that I wouldn’t usually notice. But in the end, I came to peace with it and I now love the little imperfections.”

Imperfect elements are seamlessly woven into her monochromatic collection of tailored white shirts, structured collars, twisted pants and asymmetrical hems, putting a new spin on statement pieces and wardrobe essentials for the new season.

“Perfection in the quality of my garments is key, but I deliberately added imperfect elements such as unseen hems and clashing fabrics to give it that feel I wanted,” said Buahmad.

Her favorite pieces in the collection – the tweed dress and structured white ensemble – are loose yet flattering, according to the designer, who says they are suitable for any occasion.

“It always worked and made me feel good and that’s whats most  important,” said Buahmad. “How fashion makes a woman feel rather then look.”

Her modern yet classically innovative creations are available at select boutiques throughout the Middle East.
