Bahrain plans multi-million dinar ‘medical city’

Designs are being drawn up for a multi-million dinar medical city in the southern part of Bahrain, it was reported on Wednesday.

The King Abdullah Medical City project will reportedly be paid for through a $1 billion Saudi riyal grant from the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and will be built on a 1m square metre plot of land donated by His Majesty King Hamad.

It will be run by the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) and designed by multidisciplinary firm Saudconsult following an agreement signed in December.

The scheme will comprise 264 beds, four research centres, a medical college and student dorms, as well as accommodation for doctors, according to the Gulf Daily News.
