A Dubai artist has created the world’s largest ever depiction of the late Sheik Zayed from a canvas made entirely out of sand, it was announced on Monday.
The piece was created by Sylvain Tremblay, lecturer at the Canadian University of Dubai, who started his work in the early hours of Monday morning.
The 12m x 10m picture can be viewed by the public for the first time next week at Liwa’s Art Hub. The Hub sits at the base of an 80m high sand dune on which the picture will be displayed.
“I feel very honoured to have been able to do this and I am delighted with the result,” said Tremblay. “The wind made it tough and I had to finish a lot quicker than expected, but I had so many supporters and students and they helped me finish it.”
