Shereen Audi, 40, is a Jordanian abstract artist. While living in Amman, she’s amassed quite a following for her artwork and plans to showcase her pieces outside of her native, Jordan. Claiming she’s a “woman with a golden brush,” elan sat down to speak to her about her artwork and what we can expect!
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself, especially your educational background and professionally?
I’m a Jordanian abstract expressionist artist and have been creating art since 1993. I participated in my first group exhibition in 1993 and ever since have been doing solo shows both locally and overseas. I have completed different courses in art and print making with various well-known local and visiting artists.
Describe your style. What does your artwork say about you?
I am a painter who favors modern and abstract art. It represents my inner feelings.
You say your artwork is driven by your feelings. What role do emotions play in your expression?
My emotions drive me to paint. It is an escape from the burdens of daily life that tend to lead to monotony. Painting gives me the feeling of contentment, both from my heart and soul. It frees my mind and spirit.
What is your greatest inspiration as an artist?
Nothing in specific inspires my art but I do gather inspiration through everything around me from my daily life, my family, my feelings, my struggles, etc. everything I experience throughout the day inspires me and motivates me to paint.
What artists do you admire?
I love Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Robert Motherwell and Andy Warhol. Many Arab contemporary artists also inspire me.

Tell us a little known fact about you.
I meditate in front of a small water feature in my medititation room to clear my mind before I start to paint.
What do you hope to accomplish with your artwork?
I hope to travel with my art all over the world and to share my ideas with other artists. I also hope my art will bring inspiration to others and it remains my lifelong passion.
